Welcome to Religious Studies at Huddersfield New College! Religious Studies is a 2 year A-level course and is assessed purely through examinations at the end of each year. Below is a summary of what each year is comprised of:

Year 1 - Religion Philosophy and Science

Miracles: In this module we look at the differing definitions of 'miracle' and try to acertain exactly what one is! We also look at the opinions of major philosophers and theologians such as David Hume, Richard Swinburne and Peter Vardy.

Creation: The study of creation covers a lot of ground, from the biblical book of Genesis to the 'big bang'. We also take a look at possible ends to the universe and again we study a number of philosophers and scientist such as Charles Darwin, St. Thomas Aquinas and Michael Behe.

The Design Argument: Also known as the 'Teleological Argument', it is one of the oldest 'proofs' of God as creator. We critically analyse this 'proof' through our own opinions and those of prominant thinkers such as Richard Dawkins and William Paley.

Quantum Mechanics: Don't worry, though this module is very science orientated, there is no maths in sight! It is the study of how religion and science maybe closer in practice than originally thought. Welcome to the murky and mixed up universe of the quantum!
